Vila Tugendhat
Mies van der Rohe

 Vila Tugendhat

It was Grete’s room that I’d found myself lingering and coming back to photograph.
It’s a room full of light, intimate with it’s day bed and beautiful Tugendhat chair upholstered in bright red leather. Towards the end of the day I returned to her room and found a single line of light tracing the outline of the wardrobe door. Mies was a master of detailing and simplicity but he was also a master of light. The creamy onyx wall changes colour through the day and through the seasons. Occasionally when the sun is low enough in winter, the light touches the wall and glows red from within. A magic trick, like Rohmer’s rayon vert.
